Take an army officer, a filmmaker and a Heschel program and throw them all together..
We often talk about how the outcome of our Fellows program, and in fact of our network of sustainability advocates in general, is much greater than the sum of its parts. I'm sure we ourselves are only aware of a fraction of the changes made possible by our programs, but here's a cool example of the kind of synergies they make possible:
Since Capt. Victor Weiss participated in the Fellows program three years ago, he has become the head of the environmental department of the education corps of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). He was looking for professional personnel to make an educational film about the environment for use within the IDF. In doing so he discovered that Yuval Gozhanski, another Heschel Fellow, does his reserve army service with the education corps. When he found that Yuval is both a film director and head of the Media and Communications faculty at the Sapir College, he immediately sent him a call-up notice!
Needless to say, Yuval was delighted to help out and, not least, to spend his reserve duty on a project like this...
