The Green Change social networking project was unveiled at the Heschel Center's 10th anniversary event in December 2008. Green Change is an online meeting place for everyone who is promoting a sustainable society in Israel. The sustainability network is the internet presence for a growing number of multi-cultural and like-minded individuals to find each other, schedule meetings, share information and media materials, enlist support for public campaigns and generate active participation both online and on the ground. The network already has over 2400 members as of this date with hundreds connecting every week. Green Change has become the place where individuals from across Israel’s diverse communities who share a social environmental agenda can connect, find resources, share information and facilitate positive values and transformation on the ground.
- Shaharit is Heschel's new political think tank aiming to frame a new political Social Environmental agenda. It recently started its activity with the first core group meeting setting the agenda for the next two years of work.
- Media Policy Papers- this year the journalism and media project is pioneering a new direction. In addition to the yearly Pratt Prize for excellence in environmental reporting, we are preparing a series of policy papers around which we will plan events to promote and frame these issues in the media and in wider public opinion. We hope to use this research and publication to catalyze a public debate and reach wider than usual professional cadres of working journalists, as well as sectors of the public.
- Food & Sustainability- in connection with its increasing focus on the subject of food and sustainability, the Heschel Center sponsored two events this November. A "Sustainable Food Tour" was conducted in conjunction with Hazon from November 15-19 for participants from North America with a variety of professional backgrounds interested in the subject of sustainable food production and consumption. Immediately following the food tour, the Heschel Center and the Arava Institute for Environmental Studies co-sponsored a conference, Food for Thought, on November 19-20th at the Tel Aviv Port. This conference on food and sustainability included guest lecturers, meals, panel discussions, workshops, and even a chef competition!
